In a system where no external energy is gained or lost, energy should be conserved. This example looks at the conservation of energy while a small mass on a string-pulley system pulls a larger mass (a Pasco cart) up an inclined track.

  • Open VideoPoint
  • Open the movie "PASCO0095.MOV" on the CD
When prompted,
  • enter "2" for the number of objects to locate on each frame.
  • Click "OK"
  • Play the movie.
  • Rewind the movie so you can see the data on the title frame
  • Change the names and masses of the two series in the Coordinate Systems Window to reflect the data on the screen (click on the name or mass value to change it)
